A STRIKING home designed by renowned Newcastle architect Brian Suters has hit the market in Bar Beach.

It is understood the property has a price guide of around $4 million.

The acclaimed architect has designed some of Newcastle's most significant buildings such as the "roundhouse" former City Administration Centre on King Street which now operates as the five-star Crystalbrook Kingsley Hotel.

Design elements signature to Mr Suters' style can be found throughout the home, including an extensive use of curves.

"It was architecturally designed by Suters and it has really cool angles," Mr Flook said.

"He designed a number of homes around Newcastle and was always renowned for curves, the overhead walkways and stainless steel.

"This home also has some really lovely ocean views of the beach, so there is a lot to like about it."

The property was purchased in 1998 by owners, Alan and Ann Weiss, who are selling to downsize into a smaller home.

Set on 581 square metres only a few blocks from Bar Beach, the house spans three levels designed around two large circular sections.

The circle at the front of the home forms the study area and the second circle comprises the dining room that flows through to the kitchen.

The ground floor bedroom flows out to the pool area. Picture supplied

A third circle downstairs could be used as a bedroom or pool room, with large glass doors overlooking the swimming pool.

"Right angle corners are hard to find," the owners said.

The bedroom has expansive views. Picture supplied

"One of the highlights of the house is the interaction of the different elements of the design, lighting that is captured in each room.

"Every room throughout the house captures a different view of the architectural features as well as the natural light coming into the space."

The view stretched as far as Norah Head. Picture supplied

There are multiple outdoor areas, including the lower deck overlooking the pool and upper decks with ocean views.

"The north-south aspect gives the house a breathtaking view of the beach which extends from Bar beach, Dudley Bluff and all the way down to Norah Head," the owners said.

There are two decks running off the parent retreat including one with ladder access to the flat roof which takes in 390-degree views of the city, harbour and beyond.

The house was extended in 2012 with the addition of a parent retreat designed by Herd architects added on as a third floor.

However, it is the original features designed by Mr Suters that make the home a stand-out.

There are circular shaped showers in the bathroom, a circular stairway and five-metre high cathedral ceilings.

The dining room is located in one of the curved rooms. Picture supplied

Other features include Jarrah parquetry floorboards, marble floors on the ground level and a large wine cellar.

"I have sold a number of houses designed by Suters," the agent said.

The curves even extend to the shower in the bathroom. Picture supplied.

"I sold one [home designed by Suters] of his on John Parade a while ago but you don't see a huge abundance of them however, he was very popular in that era."

The property will go to auction on-site on March 2 at 2.15pm.
