Inside the 'Barbie dream house' on ordinary Liverpool street that you can stay in on Airbnb

An ordinary street in Everton isn’t the place you’d normally expect to find a 'Barbie dream house'.

But the Pink Jungle lies hidden in plain sight - and you can stay there via Airbnb. Inside, nearly everything is pink, from the chairs and walls to the pots and pans. Upstairs, the pink theme continues, with two pink bedrooms, make-up chairs and a ball pit.

There’s also two flower walls, neon signs and eye-catching artwork throughout. There is also a green-themed 'jungle oasis' bedroom on the top floor for those who are not huge fans of pink. The bold, Instagram-friendly design is the brainchild of business partners Nicole Lewis and Willaim Ugwu.

According to William, a 27 year-old from London, the accommodation has received a positive response so far from guests. He said: “The people are loving it. Someone’s daughter came in and said, ‘wow, did you buy a barbie dream house?’”

Nicole, also a 27 year-old from the capital, insisted that the exterior of the house should give no clue as to what the inside looked like. She said: “That’s something I love, from the outside it’s a normal place and as soon as you open the door, it’s a wow factor.”

There’s room for five guests, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and an en suite. The idea originated about a year ago, when Nicole wanted a spa retreat for her birthday but became frustrated at the “old-looking” options on Airbnb.

She said: “I wanted something more for my age, something exciting and fun. I couldn't find anything like that. I wanted to find an Airbnb that I would like to go to.”

The solution was to simply create a place themselves - and the Pink Jungle was born. Explaining the thinking behind the pink colour scheme and general design, William said: “Everywhere you go in the Airbnb, you can take an Instagram picture. We wanted everyone to have fun, have a nice environment.”

It’s been made into a beautiful and distinctive place to be by design. William and Nicole hope that The Pink Jungle will be a space where visitors want to stay in and have fun, rather than dumping their bags straight away and heading back out.

Nicole spearheaded the interior, even building the ball pit from scratch based on YouTube tutorials. William believes the project is a way of adding something unique to a city which he grew so fond of while visiting during his university studies in Durham. He added: “I came back to Liverpool and said, ‘what can we do here that can add some value?’ There’s nothing like this in Liverpool, so we thought okay, let’s do something like this and add some value.”

William and Nicole even delayed renting the house out after the makeover because they were so fond of the space and the wider city. William said: “We loved the place and didn’t want to rent it out yet, but we wanted to share it. Other people need to experience it, so we let it out on Airbnb.”

Going forward, William and Nicole are planning similarly bold makeovers with other properties in Liverpool. The pace of change in their lives over the past year still surprises Nicole.

She said: “You see when your phone will send you a notification, six months, nine months ago. The walls were white, lots of things have compete changed in this place. It’s crazy looking back.”

The Pink Jungle can be rented out on Airbnb. You can make a reservation here.
