Inside style experts' homes: Huma Qureshi - in pictures

interior experts homes: Huma Qureshi portrait
Huma Qureshi contributes to the House and Home blog on Life & Style. Here she gives us a little tour around her two-bedroom flat in Islington, where she lives with her other half. She moved in about three months ago, which has led to a complete redecoration... Photograph: Alicia Canter/Guardian
interior experts homes: Huma Qureshi's lounge
"Our green armchair and grey sofa are both from John Lewis. The green one accidentally set the tone for the rest of the room, with autumnal but bright shades. I love graphic prints, and the apple poster, from Bodie & Fou makes me laugh. And yes, I have succumbed to an owl." Photograph: Huma Qureshi/Huma Qureshi

"The living room used to be a bit of a boy space, black Ikea bookcases, an oversized coffee table and a scruffy leather sofa. We sold everything on eBay. I work in here, at a drop-down desk on the left, a restored 1930s bureau from eBay. We put wooden bookshelves in and baskets from Muji keep bits and pieces organised. Much of what’s here has been collected along the way: a Marimekko-covered footstool I bought for £40 at the Midcentury Modern show, a framed piece of Pakistani embroidery. The curtains are the latest addition, from the Natural Curtain Company."

interior experts homes: Huma Qureshi's dining table
"We bought the Orla Kiely wallpaper ages go, but only just had it put up - it’s a happy coincidence the sofa and curtains go. Shopping for a tiny dining table was tricky - this one was the smallest we could find, and a relative bargain for real oak, from Top Furniture. The ceramic pots and bowls are from trips abroad to Morocco and Turkey and the wooden railway sign comes from Rockett St George." Photograph: Huma Qureshi/Huma Qureshi
interior experts homes: Huma Qureshi's kitchen shelves
"The kitchen had a mini-makeover, which saved us loads of money. Rather than replace everything, we kept the units, and just changed the worksurface, hob, sink and tap. We sourced the best deals we could and bought everything online. But my favourite addition was the set of open shelves, to make a display out of everyday storage jars and fancier ones from Orla Kiely." Photograph: Huma Qureshi/Huma Qureshi
interior experts homes: Huma Qureshi's bedroom
"The bedroom is fairly simple - there’s not much up on the walls. The Ikea fairy lights were in the living room at Christmas time and have since been relocated here. The bedside tables were bargains from Homesense and the lampshades off Etsy. The stripy bed linen is Cath Kidston, bought in the sale. I never shop there usually (I’m not a fan of her flowery style), but these sheets were a far cheaper alternative to very expensive similar ones I’d seen at Pedlars. The throw, pendant light and cushions are all from Graham & Green and the wallpaper is by MissPrint." Photograph: Huma Qureshi/Huma Qureshi
interior experts homes: Huma Qureshi's hallway
"The hallway has become a bit of a gallery space. I’ve framed the cover of a Granta anthology on Pakistani writers, which was drawn by a Pakistani truck artist; there’s a Rob Ryan card and a few prints off Etsy. I suppose the point is you don’t have to buy something to frame it; a postcard or book cover works just as well. I painted the back of the front door with blackboard paint to make a giant chalkboard." Photograph: Huma Qureshi/Huma Qureshi
