Stephen Robinson got a great reception ahead of his first game as St Mirren boss against Hearts.
But it was far from a happy SPFL homecoming as the former Motherwell gaffer was left puzzled by a couple of key refereeing decisions in their 2-0 defeat.
Robinson replaced now- Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin and was warmly received by an excited home support - 423 days after he was last on a touchline in the Scottish Premiership.
And there’s certainly one thing the man, who signed a two-and-a-half year deal on Tuesday morning, didn’t miss in his 13 months away from the Scottish game - the officials.
Connor Ronan’s first half dismissal by ref Greg Aitken made it an uphill struggle for the new man.
Robinson didn’t see fit to tinker with the team who earned a point under the caretaker management of Jamie Langfield at Livingston last weekend.
Meanwhile counterpart Neilson welcomed back Craig Gordon and Craig Halkett among six changes after three straight league defeats.
It was definitely the visitors with best of the opening 20 minutes as Liam Boyce should have scored twice after glorious crosses into the box from the left and side.
But the big moment of the game on 22 minutes when on loan Wolves midfielder Ronan was red carded for a foul on Beni Baningime - a decision which bamboozled Robinson on the sidelines as it appeared to be given in consultation with the fourth official John Beaton.
That feeling was further enraged by a penalty appeal for the home side in the first half when New Zealand striker Alex Grieve looked to be knocked over in the box after a corner.
The second half was much more straightforward for the Edinburgh men with goals from Ellis Simms and Cammy Devlin wrapping up the victory.
With the second goal again angering Robinson as there looked to be foul on keeper Jak Alnwick in the build up.
Changes were made in attempt to get Saints back into the game but the man advantage made it extremely difficult for the hosts to build up a head of steam and find a way back into the match.
