Inside Nottingham's favourite salon according to you - where customers receive the 'best' service

After a recent poll, we visited the best salon in Nottingham, as voted for by you. The award-winning salon with talented staff always has their customers at heart…

The owner of an award-winning salon has spoken out about what they think makes it so successful. Oxygen Hair and Beauty on 497 Hucknall Road in the city has nothing but good reviews.

With loyal clients who recommend the salon to the others, owner Michelle Thomas has run the salon for six years.

With seven members of staff including an apprentice. The salon have been finalists in the English Hair and Beauty Awards numerous times and have won awards for customer satisfaction.

Michelle said: “There’s not a day where I don’t enjoy this job. We’re a busy salon, we’re always full and we get a lot of passing trade because of the bus route.

“We get loads of locals who come in who then go on to recommend us.” NCT buses 15, 16 and 17 all pass by the salon regularly.

At the salon, as well as hair services you can also get massages, facials, nails and more. Michelle continued: “I love the social side of this job, I love what I do, meeting new people and working with a great time. There are girls here who have won colour awards and we have an apprentice that gets them into what we love doing.”

Michelle revealed why she thinks the salon is so successful: “It’s because we care about everyone who comes through, on our website it says ‘client satisfaction is our inspiration’ and we offer the best possible service and have great reviews because of it.

“The customers, they’re like family, you see them more than your actual family and you create relationships and sometimes, you’re a counsellor!”

Michelle who has always worked in the beauty industry does hope to expand the well-established salon in the future. Michelle said: “I would expand, but I’d want to stay local and have another salon in Arnold or maybe Hucknall.

“I wouldn’t choose town because I want prices to stay affordable. We’re affordable, it isn’t cheap but they’re reasonable prices.”

Even with the salon closing for a while due to COVID-19 as were other salons across the country, despite this being ‘frustrating’ Michelle said as soon as they were given the government’s green light to open, ‘we were straight back on our feet.’

Kirsty Duff, a beautician at Oxygen Hair and Beauty salon said: “It’s really good here, we all get along and the atmosphere is great.”

Katelyn Ancinotti, the apprentice at the salon said: “It’s great working here, I like when we all go out for annual things, we’re friends in and out of work and we all really enjoy working here.”
