Inside new Ninja Warrior inspired water park with freefall slides and tyre run

A new waterpark lets aspiring warriors launch themselves across an obstacle course inspired by an action packed Japanese game show.

The new Aqua Park at Foxlake Adventures obstacle course opened this weekend for the first time in Dunbar in Scotland, to the east of Edinburgh.

The course has more than 20 Ninja Warrior-style features including a tyre run, ninja-jump, eagles nest, a 3.8m Mount Rainer slide and 2m high freefalling slides, Edinburgh Live reported.

Participants have to put their balance and the stoutness of their hearts to the test on the course, which requires climbing skills, agility, high jumps and pace to compete in a quick time.

Gullane U11s football team were on hand this weekend to put the course through its paces ahead of the grand opening on Monday.

The young local footballers were invited to the lake to get a sneak peek of the course, which is opening two months ahead of schedule, testing their balance, coordination and willpower to stay upright and out of the water.

The new Aqua Park is the latest addition to the adrenaline-fuelled activities at the watersports adventure hub, which includes two cable wakeboarding runs, inflatable Ringo Rides and FoxFall, the UK’s first above-water ropes assault course.

Foxlake Adventures also has Segways trails, an adventure play park, a recently installed wood-fired pop-up sauna, Jay Birds Café and also hosts various wakeboarding championships and swimming events throughout the year.

James Barbour, director of Foxlake Adventures, said: “Huge thanks to everyone including the brilliant team at Foxlake Adventures and all of the contractors who worked so hard on the Aqua Park project to help deliver it two months ahead of schedule and to the young footballers at Gullane FC who rose to the challenge to test it out ahead of the opening tomorrow.

“It was great to see the daredevils test their balance, agility, speed and endurance as they made their way around the Aqua Park, tackling all the obstacles including the Ninja-Jump and Mount Rainer slide, which seemed to be their favourite!

“Thanks also to Arlene from Forth One for dropping in too and helping us to officially declare it open.

“It’s a fantastic addition to the action-packed activities we have at Foxlake Adventures, including wakeboarding, Ringo Rides, FoxFall and our Segways – making for an even bigger action-packed fun day out.”

Entry to the Aqua Park costs £19 per person for a 50 minute session, with all kit hire included. All you need to bring is swimwear, a towel, and a padlock.

Children must be six-years-old or older and 1.1m tall, with children under eight needing an adult to accompany them. Children aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult over 18 on site .

Everyone who takes part in the course must be able to swim at least 25m.

If the Dunbar based waterpark is a little too far for you to travel to but you or your little ones fancy splashing around in the drink, then fear not.

There are plenty of amazing water parks across the UK which we have put together in an easy list.

One of the best is Sandcastle in Blackpool, which makes visitors feel as if they've stepped into an exotic land thanks to its tropical temperatures that reach up to 28C.

Expect treehouse 'storms', water slides, shallow pools, peaceful lagoons and an action river, all of which promise plenty of fun and thrills for all ages.

The park has a good mix of thrilling rides to get the adrenaline pumping, as well as more gentle offerings for little ones with its lagoons and splash zones.

Adult tickets from £22, Children 11 and under tickets from £18.

Another great watery destination to visit is Aqua Park Rutland, were you can put your skills to the test and while taking part in a bit of friendly competition against your family members.

The water park has more than 36 fun obstacles you can climb, jump, crawl, launch, slide and splash your way through, not to mention inflatable climbing wall 'The Beast', the tallest of its kind in the UK.

Tickets from £20pp for an hour's session, which includes a life jacket and briefing.
