Michael Beale insists neither Alfredo Morelos or Ryan Kent were offered new contracts by Rangers.
The pair will leave the club at the end of the season, it has officially been confirmed.
Morelos joined in 2017 for around £1million, while Kent first played for the club on loan from Liverpool, before making his move a permanent one in 2019, signing for £7million.
Neither player has been at their rip-roaring best this season, as they have in previous years - leading to intense speculation linking them with big-money moves away from Glasgow.
However, they will now leave for free in the coming weeks.
And Beale has explained the rationale behind the decisions.
He said: "No, not in the time I've been here. Neither have been offered a contract in the time since I came back in November.
"There may have been some discussions before that with Ross (Wilson) and Gio (van Bronckhorst) but in the time I've been here, the relationship I had with the two boys, it was important they focussed on football.
"I came in at a time when the team wasn't performing well on the pitch. We parked some of those conversations until earlier this month.
"It was then confirmed on our side that we thought it was right for all parties to look for something new.
"The players were in agreeance as well. We all seemed to be on the same page. Sometimes things run their course, I think it's fair to say both boys need a new environment.
"That will hopefully give them a burst of energy to get back to their best, because I don't think this season has been their best.
"Certainly for us, in those positions, we need to bring some new faces in."
