Inside Mark Wright's gruelling marathon training during holiday with Michelle Keegan

Mark Wright endured gruelling marathon training during his holiday with Michelle Keegan.

The former Only Way Is Essex star headed to Australia to spend time with his wife whilst she was busy filming for her new project. Mark is currently training for this year's London marathon after being forced to pull out last year due to injury.

The radio and TV presenter tore a calf muscle last year, forcing him to call time on his marathon dreams just days before the event last October. However, he will be back this year and is praying for an injury free time of it.

Whilst Mark headed Down Under for a holiday, training was at the forefront of his mind.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Mark shared: "It was a long process, but I've been out in Australia, so it's been great because my wife was working there. I wasn't, so I just had a lot of free time to go running and get these long distance runs in.

"They do take time, but I'm back now. It's going to be a little bit more difficult cause I've got my work on, but you've got to make it work. There's no way you can go into a marathon unprepared because that's when injuries happen."

He added: "I did a bit of strength training and a lot of sprints and other than that, it's just runs really and just different length runs; faster ones, longer, slower runs. Mixing it up."

Mark was glad he managed to enjoy some time in Australia as it was too hot in the UK to train.

"It was actually better for me there because it was a much cooler temperature for me to practice. Here would have been just too hot," he admitted as he commented on the recent hot weather in the UK.

Mark also shared his tips for anyone thinking of running the marathon next year, adding: "Take your time. Don't try and go too far too early, cause that's how I got injured. Take your time and enjoy the process."

He has teamed up with British runner Paula Radcliffe for the upcoming marathon.

Speaking about working with the sporting hero, he added: "Incredible. I mean, it's the best of the best. It's like having Tyson Fury as a mentor or be in your corner if you're having a boxing fight.

"She's been there, seen it done it, she's a champion and marathons and to have her advise me, I couldn't turn to a better person. The whole thing about taking my time and what runs and how fast to run etc. I never really listened as much last year."
