Inside Love Island's X-rated trial run with steamy scenes which never made it to air

With its slick production, Love Island is a well-oiled machine - but the show doesn't happen overnight.

Each year a group of villa wannabes, who haven't made it onto the programme, test out what the producers have in store for the islanders.

Of course the 'guinea pigs' are hoping to be bumped up to the main event, but in the meantime they're flown to Majorca for a trial run.

Series One winner Jessica Hayes, 29, wasn't immediately picked for Love Island and spent five days in Spain doing a dry run.

She explained since the wannabes knew they weren't yet part of the main show, they 'let their inhibitions go'.

“There’s lots of drama in the dry run. We all knew it wouldn’t air on TV, so we let our inhibitions down very quickly.

"There were romantic connections and plenty of kissing and cuddling in bed, with people swapping partners at the recoupling ceremonies," Jess told OK!.

Viewers of the current show were left outraged on Monday as the islanders took on the Lip Service challenge.

The gang took part in the 'sickening' game, which saw the boys down a mouthful of slop before sliding across a dancefloor to transfer it to the girls’ mouths.

Fans fumed at the show for airing the 'disgusting' scene - but according to Jessica, she'd seen it all before.

“The producers made us do a game where we had to pass liquid to our partner through our mouths and then they’d spit it into a bowl. The couple with the most in the bowl won. It was disgusting," she revealed.

Despite her disappointment at not being picked for the show initially, the mum-of-one said she was delighted when she finally made it onto the main stage.

Jessica revealed she was pulled out of the dry run with producers telling her she was "too big a character" not to be on the programme.

She'd only packed for a week, but stayed in Spain for two months, bagging the prize money with Max Morley in the process.

Revealing she is still friends with the producers now, she admits her relationship with the TV bosses didn't make sense at the time to the other islanders, before adding: "They can’t say they have favourites – but I do think I was their favourite!”

Love Island is on tonight on ITV2 at 9pm
