Inside Jack Whitehall and Roxy Horner's relationship as comedian announces pregnancy

British comedian Jack Whitehall took to Instagram over the weekend to announce that he and his girlfriend, Roxy Horner are expecting their first child together.

The 34-year-old actor broke the happy news with a light-hearted caption which read: "And I thought I wasn't getting enough attention when the dog arrived..." along with two adorable snaps of the expectant parents smiling while Jack holds up a role of images of their baby scan.

It's not been an easy ride to parenthood for the couple who tragically suffered a miscarriage last year with Vogue model, Roxy telling Hello that she was relieved to "finally fall pregnant".

The couple who have been dating for three years are believed to be over the moon by the news despite Jack hinting in the past that he was unsure about his future plans when it came to children.

Here we take a closer look at their relationship timeline including how they met, their recent health scare and how they feel about becoming parents after their first loss.

How they met

The Essex-born couple first met while the comedian was on a trip to Australia. The pair then ended up isolating together in London during the Covid19 pandemic.

According to the Daily Mail, Jack and Roxy made their relationship exclusive in March 2020. They started living together in the first couple of weeks so they could get to know each other during the pandemic - which Jack told the Couples Quarantine podcast definitely "accelerated" their bond.

However, the unconventional beginning to their relationship meant that they were not able to experience normal couple activities. Jack explained on the podcast: "We'd never gone out to see a film together. We'd never been to a restaurant in England because we met in Australia."

The couple now reside in a £17.5m five-bedroom house in Notting Hill with their dog Coco and will soon be welcoming their fourth family member into the world.

Health scares

Roxy suffered a terrifying health scare in 2021 after she collapsed at the Brit Awards and was later diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The Vogue model passed out during the event 0 which was being hosted by Jack - and had to be resuscitated by paramedics.

The 31-year-old previously opened up about her health battle to The Sun on Sunday as she revealed that she had been suffering from symptoms for three years but had not received a diagnosis after going back and forth to the doctors.

Roxy recalled: “I felt extremely tired and exhausted for a long time, I had no energy. I couldn’t even go for a walk, it was draining, I felt like I was dying. I was drinking four to eight litres of water a day.

"I knew that there was something really wrong with me. I had to listen to my body. I went to hospital in the end as I couldn’t really move.”

Roxy was taken to A&E on the night of the Brits after she suffered a "diabetic hypo" and started developing memory loss which led to her being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease.

The model has revealed she is still having a "rough time" when it comes to controlling her glucose levels as she said often "throws up" when they're too high.

She also shared how a friend had to call her an ambulance while she was out for dinner during a scare caused by the condition which left her unable to speak due to her sugar levels dropping down so low.

The expectant mother praised the comedian for his support throughout her traumatising experience as she uploaded a snap of her and Jack with the caption: "I'm so lucky and grateful for my man, my biggest support through everything.

"I don't know what I would have done this past year without you."

Road to parenthood

The couple shared the news of their soon to be family of three on Sunday evening. Jack uploaded a sweet Instagram post of him holding a roll of photographs showing the baby scan while Roxy beamed up at him in a flowy white summer dress with a hand over her stomach.

Roxy sadly suffered a miscarriage last year and admitted to Hello that she had initially been terrified to share the good news because she was "worried something would happen again".

The parents-to-be discovered they were pregnant during a trip to Australia with Roxy's family which is where they first met. It was an emotional week for the couple as the news came the same week as Roxy's nan passed away and the 31-year-old has since said she believes their little one is a "gift" from her beloved grandmother.

Speaking of how it felt to be with her family when they did the test, she said: 'It was really lovely because I got to tell my mum pretty much straight away and I don't get to see my parents too often, so it was a really perfect moment before he went off on tour".

In the past, Jack has spoken of his struggle to fully settle down in his adult life as he previously hinted that he still was not sure if he was ready for children.

Appearing on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, Jack opened about losing a lot of his friends to "rehab" and "babies" and said he was still trying to figure out "which path I'm going to take".

However, it seems Jack has definitely changed his mind as Roxy gushed to Hello that he had the "sweetest reaction" to her telling him the news.

The model went on to praise the comedian's behaviour throughout her pregnancy journey so far as she said: "He's literally just a ball of positivity – he's great. If I do have a day where it’s hard to manage, he'll crack a joke and lift me up in every way."

The news of the couple's pregnancy comes just weeks before Jack's brand new UK tour 'Settle Down' is due to start. The show is to be his most "personal" yet as he is expected to discuss the recent big changes in his life.

Describing what his new tour will be about, the comedian said: "This is my most personal show yet, with plenty of material about the big changes that have happened in my life.

'It's about my struggle to settle down gracefully. I've got a long-term partner, a ridiculous dog and am now hurtling towards middle aged without a clue. It's about a foppish man-child's crack handed attempt at adulting!'
