Inside historic city centre pub before it undergoes complete refurbishment

A historic Liverpool city centre pub is set to undergo a complete refurbishment after being acquired by new owners.

Lime Street-based pub The Vines has now closed its doors until work is due to be completed in the next couple of months. The pub was bought by The 1936 Pub Company, who also own The Green Man on Lark Lane and The Red Lion on Slater Street.

ECHO photographers have captured images of how the pub currently looks before it undergoes refurbishment. The Vines has also been referred to as 'The Big House', and has been situated on the corner of Lime Street and Copperas Hill since 1867.

The pub is a Grade 2* listed building, which means it is of special interest and therefore efforts must be made to preserve it. The Vines is thought to be one of the finest surviving examples of Edwardian pub architecture.

Speaking to the ECHO earlier this week, the pub's new owner, Rob Gutmann said: "The former billiards room, an awe inspiring grand Edwardian hall, will be brought back into play seven says a week and will feature an authentic 'gin palace' style cocktail bar.

"It feels like the honour of a lifetime in hospitality to have the opportunity to have the opportunity to take on this wonderful Liverpool pub and to have the chance to re-present it to the public again as intended at its Edwardian inception."
