Some of Glasgow's most poorly children were transported into the wizarding world of Harry Potter with a spellbinding, themed party.
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and staff at the Royal Hospital for Children organised a celebration for patients on Thursday, July 28.
The event took place in the hospital Medicinema, organised by the hospital’s dedicated Play Team and Charity volunteers.

The day began with patients discovering their Hogwarts acceptance letter, a ticket for the ‘Hogwarts Express’ and their very own Potter-style glasses, all funded by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
They were then taken to ‘Platform 9 ¾’ and transported into the realm of magic upon casting a spell at the door – but not before taking something from the trolley from which Harry Potter famously demanded: “We’ll take the lot”.
Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity CEO, Kirsten Watson said: “We’ve been organising events in hospital, such as the Harry Potter celebration, for 20 years now.
“These play events help to distract children from the stress of long stays on the ward, and create magical memories for their parents too.”
Charity volunteers also dressed up as various characters from the film series, including Hogwarts favourite, Hagrid.
The ‘sorting hat’ then gave children the chance to join Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, with special arts and crafts activities planned for each house.
Jamie Redfern, Director of Women and Children’s Services at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “It was a magical day, with wizarding wonders for all of our children and young people to enjoy, and I want to thank Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity and our teams for casting a sensational spell at the children’s hospital."
She added: “Play and creativity are hugely important to improving the outcomes of our patients and with facilities kindly supported by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity such as our on-site Medicinema showing the latest blockbuster films, to dedicated play rooms and support teams, we do everything possible to bring fun and joy to young lives.”
The Harry Potter event is just one example of a special activity funded by Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, alongside special awareness days and faith-based holidays such as Eid and Christmas.
