Inside 'filthiest hotel ever' with 'poo-stained towels and food under bed'

A hotel has been slammed by horrified guests in a barrage of dreadful reviews - with one customer even calling it “the filthiest I have ever stayed in.”

The Airport Inn, based at Manchester Airport, has received hundreds of shocking one-star reviews, with disgusted guests faced with food left under bed, 'poo-stained towels' and mould-covered bathrooms.

Located on on Altrincham Road in Wilmslow, owner Britannia Hotels describes the establishment as in a 'prime location' and 'perfect for guest who are travelling'.

However, TripAdvisor reviewers say the hotel is 'rundown' and 'grubby', with one user warning 'avoid this place like the plague', Cheshire Live reports.

It has received over 500 'terrible' and over 300 'poor' reviews throughout the years, with 'terrible' reviews include complaints about noise, smells of 'stale smoke' and rooms that 'haven't been decorated in 50 years'.

One reviewer said: "Dreadful hotel. We booked it last minute and wished we had done some research.

"First impressions weren’t great - there was a slurring, swearing woman falling over a sofa in the bar which adjoins the reception then the rooms are pretty grubby and smell of stale smoke.

"But the real issue is this hotel isn’t just for travellers: there is a huge poster in the reception advertising cheap wedding packages.

"Half the rooms are directly above the function room and it appears no effort has been made to stop the noise from these cheap weddings travelling.

"So it is midnight, we have an early morning flight to catch and have zero chance of sleep as there is music blaring up to our rooms from downstairs. The manager on duty couldn’t care less.

"While this hotel may advertise itself as an airport hotel, if you need somewhere to stay before a flight, avoid this place like the plague- it has no interest in meeting your needs."

Another TripAdvisor user titled their review 'The FILTHIEST hotel I have ever stayed in'.

During February this year, Evie Wilman said: "Staff were lovely - no complaints there. The entire hotel reeked, to the point we felt sick.

"Got to our room, opened the door to something that looks like it hasn’t been decorated in 50 years.

"3/4 plug sockets weren’t working so couldn’t charge everything we needed to for the flight, had to do this from my car. This is where it gets bad, we weren’t comfortable here so we started to look around just for cleanliness."

The TripAdvisor user listed the problems with the room.

The explained: "Carpet not hoovered, crumbs everywhere. Breadsticks under the bed. Hairs in the bed. Poo stained towel. Mould in the bathroom. Stained wall with God knows what. Dust everywhere."

One guest revealed they endured their 'most dreadful Christmas ever' at the hotel and was 'pleased' when they could return home.

The hotel boasts leisure facilities including an indoor pool, gym, sauna and squash courts.

But TripAdvisor user Nannapam said the facilities were closed during their stay.

They said: "We were given this hotel as a Christmas four-night stay as a coach holiday with Just Go.

"Staff were lovely, trying to make up for the awfulness of the hotel but they were disorganised and totally overwhelmed by several coach parties arriving for a Christmas stay.

One guest complained: "Hairs in the bed. Poo stained towel. Mould in the bathroom." (Tripadvisor)

"All food was in buffet style, not particularly appetising and certainly not hot. Christmas lunch was served at tables but so over cooked it was inedible.

"The room we had was not a bad size but the bathroom was just unacceptable, with only a sprinkle shower in the bath and any extras needed having to be asked for, such as toilet rolls.

"There was a swimming pool, which would have made the stay a little better but was closed on Christmas day and Boxing Day.

"Nothing else much to do there, can go for a short walk but nothing else in the near proximity of the hotel.

"Entertainment was there each night of the stay, first night was brilliant but downhill after that.

"A disco was put on for Christmas night but was so loud, could not stay in the same room. Just pleased when our stay came to an end and we could return home."

Another reviewer revealed problems with noise during their stay and described the hotel as 'rundown'.

After arriving at the Airport Inn at 2.30am, TripAdvisor user Ian slack said: "On arrival we experienced the couple in the next room arguing loudly with themselves, this carried on through the night and at 6.00am I phoned the reception to get the noise stopped.

Another guest worried that the hotel was advertising cheap wedding packages. (Google Maps)

"Which didn’t happen. You would expect that a hotel called the Airport Inn would cater for travellers arriving late at night, and have some sort of noise code, similar to the Premier Inn.

"When I expressed my dissatisfaction on checkout the staff member on duty was (uninterested).

"Also the hotel is grubby and tired, the bathroom was stained, as were the carpets. The whole appearance of the hotel was that of a rundown, past it’s best business.

"I wouldn’t touch this establishment with a barge pole."

The hotel also has a nauseating smell, according to reviewers. (Tripadvisor)

There is at least one guest who left happy, however.

One four-star review - the only four-star rating in the past four months - was left in January by a satisfied customer.

They said: "Good reception got us checked in efficiently. Now to the rooms, I have no complaints or observations about dark wood headboard or furniture, I do have observations about clean white sheets and clean white towel.

"Dinner buffet style and for what we paid [on] the night very acceptable in fact I had the very tasty chilli.

"Good night's sleep followed by a very good breakfast. The toaster did only toast one side though, which I am sure some people could make a huge drama about.

"Well done to the catering staff who could not have worked any harder or been more helpful… A very good night's stay and would not hesitate to stay again."
