Inside Emmerdale’s Dean Andrews’ life with fiancee Helen and grandchildren

Rotherham born Dean Andrews is helping to further the rise of Yorkshire TV but the star is just as busy away from the spotlight.

He's best known for his appearances as DS Ray Carling on Life on Mars and as Will Taylor on Emmerdale but he now has an impressive resume.

He's clearly loving presenting Our Great Yorkshire Life as each week, he shares the latest on his social media accounts.

He is the narrator but he has shared that he will pop up in a few episodes.

He's very proud of his county, telling fans 'it's a lovely insight into my beautiful county and its folk'.

He's appeared in some beloved shows including Casualty, Shameless, Ashes to Ashes and Last Tango in Halifax but he's made sure to have a well established life away from acting.

Helen was instrumental to one of Dean's biggest achievements - she discovered that Robert De Niro was visiting Leeds for "an evening with" show and push Dean to enquire about interviewing him.

Helen is very active on social media, sharing insights to the pair's life.

Family life

The 58-year-old does have two children from a previous relationship - daughters Sharny, 36 and Alice, 30.

He is already a grandad to Alice's daughter Ida-Rae and is clearly very proud of her, constantly sharing snaps to his social media.

Dean is originally from Rotherham and actually has a connection to the beloved Top Gear.

He went to school with presenter James May, attending Oakwood Comprehensive School.

What does Dean work on away from the screen?

Before his big break, Dean worked as a club singer in Rotherham.

It was until he turned 40 that he got his chance in Life on Mars and its follow-up Ashes to Ashes.

But Dean has added a number of strings to his bow to make sure he's never left without a wage.

He has previously shared that when he was working as a singer, he earnt as little as £42.

So as a contingency plans, he made investments in a barbershop and a beauty salon to ensure he always has a steady wage.
