Inside eerie abandoned Debenhams department store left to rot after closing forever

A group of urban explorers have filmed their latest video inside an iconic British department store, which now lies empty and abandoned.

The team visited the once-bustling Debenhams store in December, with the store still showing traces of its former glory days.

The last customers have long since gone, after the retail chain started closing its high street stores in 2020, though it's not clear which particular branch they got into.

Empty concession stands are mixed with broken mannequins and glamorous brand posters still hang above now empty shelves.

In the vacant café, teapots are still neatly lined up.

One of the explorers, who wishes to remain anonymous, described the experience as being “very eerie”.

“It was once such a busy store to visit and I have lots of memories as a child being blown away by the sheer size of the buildings,” they said.

“Now to know all of them are sitting abandoned is sad, but it's the reality of the future.

“There are three floors of mannequins and products left in some places, plus the power was on and we could even use the escalators.

“The cafes were still set up as if they were just closed for the day.”

The explorer said: “The whole experience was strange but amazing.

“It felt crazy to be in such a big building with working escalators and lights, with all the mannequins scattered around it did feel like somebody was watching us but we spent around three hours inside then left unnoticed.”

Earlier this month, another group of urban explorers came across a time capsule' cinema and captured its deserted film hall in a series of pictures.

'Old school' posters and rotting seats can be seen still on display at the Danilo building which has been left to decay in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

Photos give a glimpse of what the crumbling picture house might have been like in its heyday following its launch in 1937.

Urban explorers scouting out derelict manmade ruins have been warned by police not to trespass on the site or risk "serious injury" and prosecution.
