Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn messaged Kilmarnock goalkeeper Robby McCrorie in the aftermath of Saturday's horror collision, it has been revealed.
Inside the opening 20 seconds of the Scottish Cup tie between the teams at Celtic Park, Kuhn appeared to be clean through for an extremely early sight of goal before taking an uncharacteristic poor touch.
This allowed McCrorie - who joined Killie permanently from Rangers in the summer - the chance to race out to smother the ball and prevent the German winger from getting an easy shot at goal.
Unfortunately, as the players met, Kuhn's knee clattered McCrorie's face full on, and it was immediately clear from the reaction of both players, as well as the referee that the latter had suffered a sore one as the Killie medical team rushed on.
The TV cameras showed that McCrorie's face had swiftly swollen up. While he was able to walk off the pitch, he was unable to continue the game as No.2 Kieran O'Hara was subbed on, as Killie's current injury crisis worsened.
Kyle Vassell - one of several key players currently sidelined for Derek McInnes - appeared on this week's Open Goal Keeping The Ball On The Ground podcast.
After speaking about the match and what played out, with Brendan Rodgers' side running out 2-1 winners in the end, fellow panel member Ross McCormack asked how McCrorie was.
Vassell confirmed that McCrorie has sustained a fractured cheekbone and will require an operation to fix the issue.
