Inside Cardiff's Buffalo Bar after it reopens to clubbers once more

A former staple in the Cardiff nightlife scene is Buffalo Bar and after being closed for three years the well-loved bar has returned. Under new ownership, Buffalo Bar has been transformed into a bar and Japanese-style restaurant.

The new Buffalo Bar will not be a replica of the much-loved venue, but one which pays homage to it, and instead of the venue being spread over the building's two floors, the top will solely be used as a bar and music venue, while the bottom has been turned into a swanky new Japanese restaurant, Koi. Buffalo Bar is now owned by Alexander Taylor who is also on the team for Cardiff bar Pennyroyal.

Buffalo Bar opened on Monday, September 19, and has many nods to the old bar. The famous "What the f**k" sign remains, but in a slightly different format reading "What the funk".

Red light bathes the bar and is the main colour scheme, similar to the former bar. While Buffalo Bar has the same nostalgic feel as the old Buffalo Bar, the new look is updated, modern, and sleek.

Small tables and exam-like mental chairs are used to add a more industrial and edgy feel. Rows of bottles and glasses line the bar which is also lit totally in red light. You can keep up to date with the latest What's On news by signing up to the newsletter here.

There is a large space which will be the dancefloor, made of paint-splattered wooden flooring, and the bar is home to unique taps, where the different beverages are labelled all in the same font. The bar is black with a wooden panel in the middle with the logo.

You can enjoy a Buffalo Bar photo booth, so you will never forget your night out. Posters no longer adorn the walls and there is no longer bunting hanging from the ceiling but Buffalo Bar is back and promising a great night out again.
