Britney Spears has been hailed as the Princess of Pop but, according to the singer, she almost became a real princess and part of the Royal Family.
The Oops I Did It Again singer, now 40, once claimed she had a "cyber romance" with Prince William when they were teenagers.
Before the days of Tinder, Britney told talkshow host Frank Skinner she had been swapping emails with the now Prince of Wales, who is married to the Princess of Wales, Kate.
Britney spilled on her cyber flirtation with William, 40, in 2002 – in which she had asked him out for dinner when she travelled to the UK for her tour.
Sadly for the pop star, who recently said she will never perform again, things didn't work out between her and the future King. It was reported by The Sun at the time William had chosen to go fox hunting instead of meeting the pop sensation.
Britney was later `quizzed about her email exchange with William on The Frank Skinner show as the host asked: "The other thing that interests a lot of people in England is that you were supposedly quite friendly with Prince William..."
The singer then gave a confused look to Frank who added: "Prince William, you remember him?"
Britney responded with: "Yeah but what do you mean I was quite friendly with him?"
Frank clarified: "I don't mean he was a boyfriend but, you kind of exchanged emails or something."
The Lucky singer then went on to explain: "We exchanged emails for a little bit and he was supposed to come and see me somewhere but it didn't work out.
"And everybody was like: 'Oh she met him' and nothing like that happened."
Frank then joked: "You were blown out by Prince William."
Britney shrugged and said: "Yeah," as Frank reacted: "That's terrible."
But the singer insisted: "No, he's a busy guy." And Frank then joked: "What does he do with his time? He does nothing."
Comedian Frank then suggested to the pop star: "Go with the brother he's much more fun."
In the months leading up to Britney's interview, rumours of a cyber romance between herself and the future King had been swirling but, Buckingham Palace had always denied the claims.
However, royal biographer Christopher Andersen shared more details about the apparent almost-romance between the pair last year.
Author Christopher claimed in his book, Brothers and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan: "[William and Britney] tried to get together back when they were young."
He added: "There may have been phone conversations, but I don't recall that they ever actually managed to get together during that period."
At the time of the alleged conversations, Britney and William were both single.
Christopher later spilled more about the alleged almost romance between the pair on to ToDiForDaily podcast hosted by Kinsey Schofield.
Discussing William and Britney’s interactions, he claimed: "Hilarious. They tried to get together for Valentine's Day.
"I think she would have liked that for a variety of publicity reasons and other things.
"But you know, his favourite pinup as a teenager was Britney. And Harry's was Halle Berry.
"So that's, you know, that was predictive of something."
However, a year after reports of their cyber romance surfaced William began dating his now-wife Kate, now 41, after meeting at St Andrews University in 2001.
The pair went on to have three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis together and have been married for 11 years.
Meanwhile, Britney went on to date Justin Timberlake for three years. The pair went on to split in 2002.
Two years later Britney met and fell for backing dancer Kevin Federline and the pair went on to marry in September 2004.
Britney and Kevin went on to welcome two children; Sean Preston and Jayden James, together before splitting in 2006.
