Inside Boris Johnson's lavish No10 refurb as estimate shows £7k rug and £3k paint

An estimate for Boris Johnson's lavish refurb of the No10 flat included a £7,000 rug and a £3,675 drinks trolley, it has been reported.

The leaked document, published by the Independent, also included a £500 table cloth and £2,260 worth of gold wallpaper.

Some £11,000 was billed for dining chairs, and £3,000 for a "paint effect" in the dining room of the flat. In total, the estimate from Soane Britain, the design and manufacture company owned Lulu Lytle, comes to more than £200,000.

The eventual cost of the refurb - which Mr Johnson tried to have funded by a donor, before eventually paying for it himself - ran to £112,000.

It's understood the document is an initial estimate, and does not reflect the final list of items.

But it's unclear which parts of the list did and did not make it into the final refurb.

Some £30,000 worth of works and installation charges was included on the estimate, which is thought to have been paid by the taxpayer out of the grant available to the PM for refurbishment works to No10 each year.

According to the Independent the costly drinks trolley was said to be "inspired by a French 1940s drinks trolley owned by ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev”.

Also on the bill were a £4,200 antique double wingback chair along with a matching ottoman costing £1,000. A low bookcase and table was billed at £3,800.

And £6,000 worth of lamps - along with £2,500 worth of lampshades - were also on the lavish list.

Here's a breakdown of the estimate, room by room.
