Inside Beyonce and Adele's unlikely friendship from Grammy devotions to unmatched humour

Beyonce and Adele have an unlikely friendship that has only blossomed throughout the years.

As two powerhouse vocalists, they are constantly pitted against one another at award shows, and are often given nominations for the same categories, making them natural competitors in the industry.

However, their friendship is built off a mutual respect for one another's talent, which Adele has made clear from the start of her career.

Ahead of meeting the talented diva, Adele told Rolling Stone that she had a "pleasant surprise," and compared listening to her music to "listening to God."

"I was about to meet Beyonce and I had a full-blown anxiety attack… Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, ‘You’re amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I’m listening to God.'”

During a show in Denmark, the Tottenham singer admitted to having listened to the R&B star for 17 years and has previously noted her as one of her musical inspirations.

"Beyoncé is the sickest artist around in the whole entire world; it's unbelievable. I've been listening to her for 17 years, and she's still making music that blows my mind," Adele told her audience at the time.

Adele's love isn't one-sided as Beyonce herself has spoken about Adele's "bold sense of humour" and "legendary comebacks."

"It is so easy to talk to her and be around her," Bey said of her fellow singer. She even acknowledged the Brit's bold sense of humour: "She's funny as hell and her comebacks are legendary."

"The most beautiful thing about Adele is that she has her priorities straight. She is a gracious woman and the most humble human being I've ever met," she added.

Adele also dedicated her Grammy win for Album of the Year Grammy with her album 25 to her best pal, stating that her visual album Lemonade was more deserving of the accolade for how it had made her and her Black friends feel "empowered."

"You are our light and the way that you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my Black friends feel is empowering, and you make them stand up for themselves," she said in her acceptance speech. "And I love you, I always have and I always will. I appreciate it."
