Dublin upbringing and mother's tragic death

Barry grew up in Summerhill, Co Dublin alongside his brother Eric. The brothers spent seven years bouncing from foster home to foster home as their mother struggled with addiction.

When Barry was just 12 years old, his mum passed away from a heroin overdose. He was then raised by his grandmother and aunt.

Speaking about his difficult childhood, Keoghan hopes that his story will inspire others to follow their dreams. He admitted that if you saw “13 foster homes” on paper, you wouldn’t expect him to be where he is in life.

Rise to fame

Barry kicked off his acting career in 2011. He studied acting at The Factory in Dublin and in the same year appeared in Fair City when he was 18.

In 2013, he picked up his break-through role in the RTE drama Love/Hate where he played the "infamous cat killer" Wayne. Barry was soon making headlines and turning heads in the film industry.

In 2017, Keoghan landed two big roles in America. He played George Mills in Dunkirk and Martin Lang in The Killing of a Sacred Deer which also featured Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman. The following year, he played an English soldier in Black ‘47 and two years later featured in the 2019 mini-series Chernobyl.

Huge Hollywood success and net worth

Barry moved to another league of fame when he was cast in MCU blockbuster Eternals, alongside Angelina Jolie. While the movie wasn't a massive success, it lead to him being cast in his biggest role yet. In the blockbuster Batman movie, released to cinemas worldwide last March, Keoghan has a mysterious cameo at the end, leaving fans speculating about his role in future films. It was later confirmed that Barry has been cast to play the iconic character The Joker.

The star's net worth is obviously not public record but has is said to be anywhere between $4million and $17 million thanks to the addition of Marvel roles to his impressive career.
