Inside abandoned 18th-century mansion where 'woman was found floating dead in well'

An eerie abandoned millionaire's mansion which dates back to the 18th century has been discovered by an urban explorer in a chilling video.

Ben, from Lost Adventures on YouTube, discovered the mansion which has a dark history of tragic murders and the suicides of people who had previously lived on the estate.

He says the mansion, in an undisclosed location in the UK, was difficult to navigate as he had to cross a mile of private driveways to get to the abandoned manor.

There are folklore stories of a woman's body being found floating in the mansion's well in the 1880s, which was a factor in Ben wanting to explore the property.

Ben said: "In 1880 a woman's body was found floating in the well, and five years later the stonemason shot himself with his shotgun and died.

"I risked my life going into the building to get some footage but I think it was definitely worth it."

The mansion was last lived in in the 1980s and has suffered considerable damage, which means it has fallen into disrepair after becoming abandoned and left to rot.

He said: "The manor was last inhabited in the 1980s and since then has become more weather damaged over the years, just like many of the English Heritage buildings that don't get looked after properly."

It is thought the history of the mansion goes back to the Tudor times and has since been remodelled and redeveloped over the years. There are tributes to its past with plaques dated back to the 18th century on the walls of the mansion.

The YouTuber said: "The history of the location goes all the way back to Tudor times.

"However, it has obviously redeveloped and remodelled throughout the years.

"There are plaques on the walls that also date back to the 18th century."

As Ben explored further into the eerie house, he stumbled across a statue of the Greek god Poseidon in the middle of the courtyard.

He said: "Some of my favourite parts of the exploration were the Poseidon statue in the middle of the courtyard which is missing its trident in his right hand.

"It's either been removed due to protection of value or thieves have already taken it."

After entering the scary mansion, Ben was pleasantly surprised how some parts of the emptied building were in such good condition, but was also aware some other parts of the building were less so and he did not want to enter for the fear of his life.

He added: "Getting inside the old manor's main parts was another highlight for me because, as you can see towards the end of the video, it was a surprise that some parts are in great condition and that other parts could cost you your life entering the room."
