Inquest opens after woman's body found in the woods

An inquest has opened into the death of a woman from Leigh.

Support worker Janice Twist went missing from her home in Charles Street on May 25 and was found unresponsive in woods off Orchard Lane 10 days later. The 46-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police coroner's officer Andrew Pickles told Bolton Coroner's Court : "Janice was reported missing by her niece, following a verbal argument with her husband on May 25, when Janice had finally left the family home. Janice had a history of self-harm and her family were concerned for her."

Mr Pickles confirmed that police started searching a "densely wooded area north of Leigh Infirmary" on June 4 and that is when Janice was found. Following a post mortem, the provisional cause of Janice's death has been recorded as 'hanging'.

Senior Coroner Timothy Brennand adjourned the inquest until December 12.
