The inquest into the death of Abdul Jaber Oryakhel will begin on Tuesday, October 4. The father of seven died as a result of a fire at Twinnel House in Easton.
The inquest will open at 9.30am at Avon Coroner’s Court in Flax Bourton. The brief hearing will outline the next steps where the inquest hearing is likely to be announced.
Mr Oryakhel was seeking asylum and had been staying with his cousin in a flat on the 16th floor of Twinnell House in Easton, when tragedy struck at around 2am on Sunday morning.

Investigations have found that the fire started when an electric bike charger caught alight , and three other people in the flat at the time managed to escape the fire - two by clambering out of a window and clinging on to the outside of the building before they were pulled in by firefighters.
But Mr Oryakhel, who The Times said was a shepherd from a village in the Laghman province in eastern Afghanistan, was trapped in his bedroom by the fire and clambered out of the window as the flames spread, but tragically fell to his death. He had left his wife and seven children in Afghanistan and hoped to bring them to this country when he was granted asylum.
An inquest is a public, fact-finding process to establish who died and where, when and how the death happened. It won’t establish who’s responsible for the death.
Most inquests are completed within six months of the death. The Coroner will open the inquest, confirm the identity of the deceased and set a date for the inquest to be heard.
The inquest will then be adjourned. With the Coroner’s guidance, a Coroner’s officer will put together a file of evidence.
