Saints boss Jim Goodwin has revealed star striker Eamonn Brophy's ankle injury is not as serious as first feared.
The Buddies were left sweating on the results of a scan after the club's top goalscorer so far this season hobbled off the pitch against Motherwell last Tuesday night.
Initially St Mirren feared they might have been without the former Kilmarnock striker for the majority of the rest of the season.
But this afternoon Goodwin told Renfrewshire Live Sport that he would be back in action within three to four weeks, and potentially even before then.
Goodwin said: "We've had some positive feedback from the specialist yesterday.
"The MRI scan initially was a wee bit concerning, but it looks like it won't be as long as first feared.
"We're hoping it's only going to be three to four weeks as opposed to eight weeks which was first feared initially.
"We'll try and rush him as much as we can while at the same time being fair to him and making sure he's OK to come back in.
"It is pleasing. We're a little light at the top of the pitch at the moment."
The news will come as a boost to the Buddies who have been struggling for numbers up front.
Curtis Main only made his return to action at the weekend at Easter Road after a spell out with a groin injury, but he has suffered a slight setback and is set to miss tomorrow night's clash with St Johnstone.
Goodwin said: "Curtis Main is struggling, he will miss tomorrow night.
"He's not long back from injury when he came on and played against Hibs on Saturday for 20 minutes.
"He didn't feel right yesterday so tomorrow will be too soon. I imagine he'll be available for the weekend."
