A tiny injured seal was unable to keep down her medication after she swallowed so much plastic.
Fallow the seal was found with bite wounds on the right-hand side of her face. She weighed a tiny 9.65kg.
On arrival at the Scottish SPCA wildlife hospital, she was severely dehydrated and was vomiting seaweed and plastic.
For the first few days she continued to bring up plastic and was unable to keep down any of the medications or rehydration fluid.
Due to the issues the plastic was causing, SSPCA staff needed to give her little and often every two hours until the medication started working.
A spokesperson said: "After 10 days her condition wasn’t improving and her wounds had formed a golf ball-sized abscess that pushed against her throat.
"This would have been really distressing for her, but luckily the abscess was in a safe location so it could be drained.
"Five days later we were thrilled when she began eating on her own and, after a month, she was moved to our outdoor pools before being released with a full bill of health, weighing a healthy 35kg."
Today is National Earth Day and SSPCA are reminding the public to be #WildlifeWise and think of animals like Fallow when disposing of plastic and other items that could cause harm to wildlife.
