Injured Nottingham Forest man sends heartfelt message as key step taken in recovery

Nottingham Forest defender Giulian Biancone has taken an important step in his recovery from his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The 23-year-old says he is ready to return “home” to the City Ground after completing part of his rehabilitation abroad. Although not able to get on the pitch for the Reds in their remaining four games, he is determined to play his part as Steve Cooper’s side battle to avoid relegation.

Biancone has been sidelined since November, when an innocuous incident in training ruled him out for the rest of the campaign. He underwent surgery in Austria before spending time at an Isokinetic centre in Italy.

Posting a picture on social media of himself and two staff members, he wrote: “I particularly like this picture because it shows two extraordinary people with whom I spent 5 months of great quality, Anto and Lore.

“With this last moment immortalised there, I would like to thank all the people I worked with at @isokinetic_officialpage from near and far. I discovered a beautiful city in a country that is particularly close to my heart, Italy, the land of my ancestors!

“But now it’s time to finally go home, where I feel most comfortable, next to the world famous City Ground in Nottingham and help my team achieve the main objective of this season, to stay in the best league in the world. Can’t wait to see y’all YOU REDS.”

Biancone joined Forest last summer from Troyes. He made three appearances for the club at the start of the campaign, including two as a substitute in the Premier League. His only start came in the Carabao Cup victory over Grimsby Town in August.

Even if fit enough to feature before then, the Frenchman will have to wait until next term before he pulls on the Garibaldi again. He was not included in the Reds’ revised 25-man Premier League squad after the January window

He will no doubt still be in and amongst his teammates, however, with Cooper keen for a sense of unity amid the survival fight. Steve Cook was also not included in the squad for the second half of the campaign but has continued to train with the first-team and been at games. Likewise, injured players such as Dean Henderson, Chris Wood and Gustavo Scarpa have supported from the sidelines during matches.
