Brisbane duo Ezra Mam and Payne Haas will consult a specialist to determine whether they will have surgery on potential season-ending injuries.
Haas (Lisfranc) and Mam (ankle) were both injured in the 46-18 loss to Gold Coast on Saturday that all but ended their finals hopes.
AAP understands Haas's injury was not initially thought to be as bad as the one suffered by Newcastle's Kalyn Ponga that kept him out for three months. Mam may have to undergo surgery and is long odds to play any role in the remaining five rounds.
The Broncos, on 20 points and with a bye to come, would need to win their remaining four games against North Queensland (away), Parramatta (home), the Dolphins (home) and Melbourne (home) and rely on other results going their way to make the top eight. They are currently six points adrift of eighth-placed St George Illawarra.
Josh Rogers has been named to play at No.6 in Mam's absence against the Cowboys in Townsville while Xavier Willison moves off the bench into a starting role.
Brisbane have given utility Tristan Sailor another chance on the bench while Josiah Karapani comes onto the wing for Corey Oates, who is carrying some niggles and has been left out.
Oates copped a spray from fullback Reece Walsh against the Titans for dropping a pass but lock Pat Carrigan said there was no disharmony within the group.
"We are (united). I think for us, our feedback happens in a public forum and as a group, we're really close-knit and I think the relationships that we have provide an opportunity for us to be able to give feedback on the run and help each other out," Carrigan said.
"I think that just comes to how competitive we are as a group, but in terms of any fractures; there's nothing like that.
"It's just some frustrations that come with footy sometimes. But in terms of being mates, in our connectivity; it couldn't be any better."
Walsh did train at five-eighth for an extended period on Tuesday and may spend time there against North Queensland.
