Injured Cardiff City star Isaak Davies 'not quite right' as update given on Burnley transfer pursuit

Isaak Davies' return-to-play timeframe has been pushed back later than Cardiff City originally hoped for and the player will not be rushed back to action, Bluebirds boss Steve Morison has confirmed.

The exciting young forward is yet to kick a ball this season owing to a knee injury he sustained at the beginning of the summer. It was hoped that he would use August to get his fitness levels up to the rest of the squad's, however the rehabilitation process has been slower than anticipated.

Morison on Saturday rubbished social media claims that new striker Kion Etete would be out for around three months after rolling his ankle in a game for the under-21s, telling fans to "ignore" the reports.

More social media claims emerged regarding another budding forward, Isaak Davies, over the weekend, claiming he had suffered a setback on the road to recovery. However, those rumours were not rubbished so quickly.

"It's just more of a slow process than we hoped it would be," Morison said of Davies. "He was due to play in the under-21s last week and he is not quite right yet.

"Obviously he is a big player for us and he is someone we are not going to rush until he is ready. He is still a good few weeks away yet."

Davies, of course, was the subject of a £2.5m transfer bid from Championship rivals Burnley a couple of weeks back, an offer which was rebuffed by the Bluebirds.

Morison confirmed there had been no offers for any other Cardiff player in the intervening period and appeared to put to bed the notion that the Clarets were still interested in Wales youth international Davies.

"You want interest in your players because it means you are doing something right and they are doing something right," Morison added.

"Whether we have to bite on the interest is our prerogative. The only interest we had was the Isaak one and that's gone away now."

The 20-year-old scored three goals and provided three assists in 30 games for the Bluebirds in his debut season last year.
