Injured Adam Idah to be assessed ahead of France qualifier

Adam Idah has yet to be ruled out of the France qualifier even though his club boss expects him to be sidelined for a number of weeks.

The Norwich City striker injured his foot during the first-half of last Wednesday’s draw with Huddersfield and left the ground on crutches.

Idah was still named in the Ireland squad the following day, but Canaries boss David Wagner suggested over the weekend that he wouldn’t play.

Wagner said: “Adam has a foot injury. He'll be out for a few weeks. How many exactly? We can't say at the minute. It doesn't look like a break, but we have to have further investigations and assessments.”

But while Idah won’t play any part in Wednesday’s friendly against Latvia at Aviva Stadium, he will come into camp for assessment later today.

Ireland’s medical staff will then determine if he can play any part in Monday’s opening Euro 2024 qualifier with France.

Idah, 22, has been plagued by injuries over the last 18 months and required two operations on a knee injury.

A prolific scorer for Ireland at youth level, he established himself in Stephen Kenny’s senior team after racing to 13 caps only for injury to stop him in his tracks.

Idah hasn’t played for the Boys in Green since the final World Cup qualifying game - a win in Luxembourg - in late 2021.

The Ireland squad trained at FAI headquarters this morning, with Celtic winger Mikey Johnston linking up with the team for the first time.
