Influential Port Adelaide defender to face fitness test

Port Adelaide defender Miles Bergman will face a last-gasp fitness test to determine if he plays against Sydney on Sunday.

Bergman has been cleared of structural damage to a knee after being substituted out of Sunday's win over Hawthorn.

"I think he'll be OK," Power coach Ken Hinkley told reporters on Wednesday.

"The scan was OK, it was a bursar issue that causes a lot of fluid but not too much long-term issue.

"Optimistic that he'll be there Sunday, doesn't mean he definitely will be. We'll have to wait until very close to the game."

Hinkley will also recall Darcy Byrne-Jones from a one-game suspension for the SCG clash against the Swans in a rematch of last year's preliminary final.

Sydney won the final by a comfortable 36 points, though both Hinkley and new Swans coach Dean Cox have 2-3 records this season.

"Sydney play Sydney-style football. And yes, there's been a change of coach," Hinkley said.

"But Dean worked really closely with John (Longmire) for a long period of time and knew his opportunity was probably coming.

"I don't think Sydney have changed too much their culture and their values.

"They play football around those things, like we'd like to think we do as well.

"But they're one of the clubs we respect and admire the most because of their consistency."

The Power travel to Sydney after a morale-boosting victory against Hawthorn - and Hinkley would love a repeat of last week's performance.

"We'd like to hope so, but we know it's probably a bit of a stretch to say you can do that every week, every game, every second and every minute of every game," he said.

"We've seen what happened the other night - we were dynamic for two and a half quarters, probably a little bit longer than that, but to Hawthorn's credit they were able to find a way to get back into the game.

"And it's pretty hard at this level to bring that level of consistency to performance, but we set out every week to do that."
