The New York City Police Department is currently investigating a distressing incident after an infant was found abandoned in a tote bag near a Bronx apartment building. The authorities were alerted to the situation following a 911 call received just after 6 a.m. on Sunday reporting the sound of a crying baby.

Upon arrival at the scene on Rev. James A. Polite Avenue, officials discovered an infant girl wrapped in blankets inside a tote bag that had been left in front of the apartment building. The baby, whose identity is yet to be determined, was promptly taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in stable condition and is currently under the care of hospital staff.

Local residents expressed shock and concern over the incident, with one individual stating, 'Hearing that this is even a thing is very disturbing for this neighborhood.'

Authorities are seeking the public's assistance in locating the individual responsible for the abandonment of the child. The suspect is wanted on charges of child abandonment, and any information that could aid in the investigation is encouraged to be reported to the police.
