A notable MAGA pastor gathered hundreds of protesters outside an Albuquerque public school meeting to call for banning LGBTQ+ books.

John Amanchukwu, a North Carolina pastor known for his calls to ban books with LGBTQ+ themes, has made appearances at school board meetings across the country, gaining attention for having controversial rhetoric.

On Wednesday night, hundreds of protesters and supporters clashed over books and school policies at an Albuquerque Public Schools Board meeting, spurred by Amanchukwu, KOAT News reported.

The meeting saw tense exchanges both inside and outside the Albuquerque Public Schools headquarters. As the board listened to 44 speakers, the large group of demonstrators engaged in vocal protests outside.

Meanwhile, Amanchukwu criticized the district during his public comments, calling LGBTQ+ books "perverted" while also claiming the district's policies are harmful towards students.

Supporters of LGBTQ+ representation argued that such literature fosters inclusion and prevents harm to marginalized groups.

The meeting ended without interruptions or arrests, but the debate underscored deep divisions in the community.

The board did not make any immediate decisions regarding LGBTQ+ books, leaving the issue unresolved for future discussions.
