With the Indianapolis Colts signing linebacker Liam Anderson to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, the corresponding move in order to make room for that addition was releasing defensive tackle Adam Gotsis.
The Colts would sign the veteran Gotsis to the practice squad in mid-September and then added him to the 53-man roster when Tyquan Lewis went on injured reserve.
Gotsis has provided the Colts with defensive line depth as they’ve navigated injuries this season. In addition to Lewis being on injured reserve, DeForest Buckner was at one time as well, and Kwity Paye has also missed some playing time.
However, with both Paye and Buckner healthy, Gotsis has been a healthy scratch in recent games.
Gotsis would appear in five games this season for the Colts, playing 71 defensive snaps and 81 on special teams. He gave Indianapolis some positional flexibility, able to play both defensive tackle and end.
According to PFF’s metrics, Gotsis recorded three pressures and was in on eight tackles in the run game.
Gotsis is a former second-round selection by the Denver Broncos in the 2016 draft. He came into the 2024 season having appeared in 121 career games, which included 54 starts.
With Anderson now on the 53-man roster, the Colts do have a practice squad opening and could perhaps try to bring Gotsis back in that capacity. He will first go on waivers and if unclaimed can sign wherever he chooses.
