Indianapolis Colts vs. Dolphins key stats comparison: Who has the advantage?

After back-to-back road games, the Indianapolis Colts are now returning home for a Week 7 matchup with the Miami Dolphins, who are coming off their bye week.

While the Colts shouldn’t be looking ahead, we sure can, and the schedule starts to get really challenging in the coming weeks. Following the Dolphins game, the Colts then play Houston, Minnesota, Buffalo, the New York Jets, and Detroit Lions all in consecutive weeks.

Banking a win at home against a 2-3 Dolphins team that will still be without Tua Tagovailoa would be quite valuable.

Of course, we all know that the game of football isn’t played on spread sheets, but certain stats can provide us with some insights into where the matchup advantage lies for each team.

With so much data and information out there nowadays, I did my best to boil this article down to the need to know statistics for this matchup that do still carry a lot of weight.

This includes the run game performance, passing game performance, pressures, turnovers, third down success, and of course, points.

With help from Team Rankings and Pro Football Reference, here is how the Colts matchup stat-wise in a few key categories with the Dolphins:

IND (rank) MIA (rank)
Points per game 23.2 (16th) 12.0 (32nd)
Points per game allowed 23.2 (18th) 22.6 (17th)

Yards per rush allowed 4.6 (19th) 4.7 (23rd)
Yards per pass attempt 7.5 (13th) 6.5 (25th)
Yards per pass allowed 7.3 (25th) 6.2 (11th)
Pressure rate on QB 19.0% (21st) 22.5% (14th)
Pressure rate allowed 15.1% (3rd) 19.4% (15th)
Turnover differential +1 (T11) -2 (T22)
Third down conversion rate 42.6% (8th) 30.3% (29th)
