Chris Holtmann was reportedly the target to take the reigns of the Hoosier basketball program this past week according to Jeff Goodman of Stadium.
For the life of me, it never ceases to amaze me how big time college athletic directors seem to have no plan in place when they fire a head coach, as IU did with Archie Miller recently. To date, we’ve heard a multitude of names that have so-called been the “priority target.” They range from Thad Matta, to Brad Stevens, to John Beilein, and well, we won’t bore you with the others, but it the list seems to be getting bigger by the day.
But back to Holtmann. It’s pretty gutsy of Indiana to try and pull the rug out from underneath Big Ten foe Ohio State after Holtmann and the Buckeyes just got knocked out of the NCAA Tournament in unexpected fashion. I mean, it makes sense since he’s had Indiana’s number since joining the league, but he’s also only been in Columbus for four seasons now and still building the program.
But … not to worry Buckeye fans because Goodman went on to say that Holtmann is “happy at Ohio State.” Someone needs to tell IU that it just isn’t the program, nor the job it thinks it is any longer.
Indiana zeroed in on Ohio State’s Chris Holtmann earlier in the week, source told @stadium. Holtmann is happy in Columbus.
Holtmann is one of four coaches who has seven consecutive 20-win seasons.

We’ve got no confirmation from OSU or Holtmann about the Cloak and Dagger move by Indiana, but at this point, you have to wonder where the Hoosier administration will turn next. Heck, shoot your shot I guess. Maybe Phil Jackson will come out of retirement for the cream and crimson.
