Indiana Fans Storm Court After Hoosiers Top No. 1 Purdue (Video)

No. 21 Indiana put the college basketball world on notice Saturday, toppling No. 1 Purdue, 79–74, to earn a hard-fought Big Ten victory in Bloomington, Ind.

The Hoosiers (16-7, 7-5 Big Ten), led by a 25-point effort from star senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, handed the Boilermakers (22-2, 11-2) their second loss of the season in an impressive showing inside a raucous Assembly Hall. Freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino punctuated the win with a dunk with two seconds left to play, sending Indiana fans into a frenzy just before the crowd stormed the court after the final buzzer.

Indiana’s resounding win over its archrival marked the program’s first victory over the nation’s top team since beating Michigan in 2013, and its fourth win ever at Assembly Hall over a top-ranked team.

Saturday’s matchup also marked second-year coach Mike Woodson’s second home win over Purdue, with the first coming in a 68–65 victory in Bloomington last January. Prior to Woodson’s tenure, the Hoosiers hadn’t defeated the Boilermakers in back-to-back home games since the ’11-’12 and ’12-’13 seasons.

In addition to leading the team in scoring, Jackson-Davis recorded a team-high seven boards and five blocks. Hood-Schifino scored 16 points and junior guard Trey Galloway scored 11 points.

For Purdue, star center Zach Edey turned in a monster 33-point, 18-rebound performance, but freshman guard Flecther Loyer (12 points) was the only other player to score in double figures. Entering Saturday, the Boilermakers, who trailed by as much as 16 points in the first half, held 24 consecutive opponents to 70 or fewer points.
