An Indian takeaway in Barry has been named as the one of the best in the UK and the only winner from Wales at a national awards show celebrating the very best of the British curry industry.
Royal Balti on Vere Street in Cadoxton was one of nine winners from all over the UK to take the Best Curry Takeaway 2022 title at The Curry Life Awards.
Owned by Muhammad Ahmed and Niaz Haidari, the award-winning takeaway opened in 2003 and, two decades later, is still going strong. The Royal Balti is not only celebrating this accolade - it also won the Indian Takeaway of the Year 2022 at The Welsh Asian Food Awards 2022 for the second time after first claiming victory in 2019.

Speaking of earning the title of Wales' best takeaway at The Curry Life Awards, Royal Balti's owners, who are "delighted" and "proud" of such a testament to their business, said: “Our takeaway has built up a good reputation over the years, because we provide excellent service and maintain our quality. Even though we are going through the toughest times and paying high costs for everything we still haven't dropped in quality – we have continued to offer quality food to our customers and taking less profit.
“Thank you to our customers who are continually supporting us.” They added: “Our staff always strive to ensure we provide the best service. We are always seeking new ideas and trying to improve to ensure our business keeps its valuable reputation and loyal customer base.”
They announced the news of their win to their loyal customers via social media in a heartfelt message. Taking to Facebook, they said: "Congratulations to us and our Team and to our customers. We are so proud to say we have won the prestigious Best Curry Takeaway Award 2022."
Royal Balti follows in the footsteps of fellow Cardiff Indian takeaway, Love Curry in Victoria Park, which last year took home the gong for being one of the Best Takeaways in the UK at the Curry Life Awards 2021.
This awards ceremony follows a string of others similar to this in which the best of the culinary industry is celebrated. This month, we have seen winners for the ARTA awards, AA Hospitality Awards and The Golden Chopsticks Awards unveiled with Lokky's being crowned Best in Wales at the GCAs, The Grand Sultan in Port Talbot taking Restaurant of the Year: Wales and Elaichi in Camarthen winning Regional Chef of the Year: Wales at the ARTAs and a number of Welsh businesses, such as The Grove in Narberh and Gem 42 in Newport being recognised at the AAs.
This win for the award-winning Royal Balti comes just days before it was nominated for this year's The British Curry Awards 2022.
