NEW DELHI: Indian pencak silat team is all geared up to participate in the 19th World Pencak Silat Championships 2022, to be held in Malaysia's Melaka later this month. The championships is being organised under the aegis of the Malaysia's ministry of youth and sports and the country's National Olympic Committee (NOC).

A training camp to prepare the team for the prestigious meet is currently underway at the indoor hall of Srinagar's Polo Ground, attended by around 38 players from different states as well as personnel of para military forces, including Shastra Seema Bal (SSB). The camp, which started on July 1, will continue till July 22 before the Indian team will fly out for Malaysia.

The camp, on Monday, was inspected by J&K sports council secretary Nuzhat Gull, who motivated the campers to do well at the Malaysia Worlds. Gull took stock of the arrangements put in place for the participants including their boarding and lodging. She apprised the participants about the role J&K sports council is playing to provide the best training and coaching facilities and, how during the past few years, the steps taken to lay requisite infrastructure has helped players take leaps in the national and international competitions.

Gull also appreciated the efforts made by the IPSF for conducting the preparatory camp in Kashmir, the place known for its rich hospitality and which has a tremendous potential to host big events like Asian Pencak Silat Championship 2022 in the month of September, where more than 15 countries are expected to participate.

The athletes have been training under the guidance of coaches Mohammad Iqbal, Irfan Aziz Botta, Vinod Kumar (Haryana) and Rajesh Kumar (Delhi).
