In a bid to establish and strengthen its state professional boxing commissions and district associations across India, the Indian Boxing Council (IBC) will conduct its inaugural Zonal pro boxing event at the National College, Tiruchi, on July 16.
The event is being co-promoted by two Tamil Nadu based boxing promoters: Siva Ramakrishnan of Tamil Nadu Pro Boxing Promotions (Coimbatore) and B. Rajinikanth of Muhammed Ali Boxing Promotions (Namakkal).
The fight night will feature 16 Pro Boxing bouts, with 26 boxers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh participating in the fight card.
Additionally, six boxers from Delhi and Punjab will engage in four-round contests on the same card.
Nineteen new boxers will make their professional boxing debuts at the event.
“Most of these boxers are between the ages of 20 and 25, and they bring with them over three to four years of amateur boxing experience having represented their respective districts or states in three-round amateur competitions, said P.K.M. Raja, president of IBC, who is in Tiruchi to conduct a three-day workshop and qualifying examination for 15 ring officials from South Zone.
