Ever since the railway ministry launched Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Mission) in 2016, cleanliness at railway stations have improved. However, cleanliness is not uniform across railway stations. According to a third-party audit and cleanliness ranking of major stations, Rajasthan has seven out of the top 10 most clean railway stations in India while Tamil Nadu has 6 out of 10 dirtiest stations.
This year's survey, released by the Railway Ministry, took into account 720 railway stations from all over India.
Cleanest railway stations in India:
The Pink City of Jaipur has India's most clean railway station, followed by the royal city of Jodhpur. The little-known Durgapura railway station, also in Jaipur city, is at No. 3. Together, all the top three spots have been captured by the desert state of Rajasthan, which is known to be a tourist hotspot for its natural beauty, rich culture and royal heritage links.
Rajasthan has four other railway stations in the top 10 list: Gandhinagar-jp, Suratgarh, Udaipur and Ajmer.

India's most dirty railway stations:
According to the survey, Tamil Nadu has 6 most dirty railway stations in the top 10 list. The top two positions are also occupied by the southern state. Perungalathur (Chennai) and Guindy are the two worst stations to be in India when it comes to cleanliness and hygiene. At No. 3 is Delhi Sadar Bazar station.
