India’s longest ropeway to connect Dehradun and Mussoorie soon; journey in just 15 minutes

Dehradun is all set to become home to India’s longest ropeway system that will connect the city with Mussoorie. The ropeway work has already begun by Mussoorie Sky Car Company Pvt. Ltd., a consortium led by FIL Industries Private Ltd and comprising POMA SAS France and SRM Engineering LLP.

Touted as India’s longest ropeway system with a length of over 5.5 km, it will be a mono-cable ropeway. This INR 300 crore project will be ready by September 2026 and will cut down the travel time drastically to just 15 minutes. As of now, it takes around 1.5 to 3 hours (depending on traffic), to cover a distance of about 33 km between the two destinations.

It will be the first time in India that a ropeway will feature 10-seater cabins. All cabins will be enclosed, fully ventilated, glazed and will have automatic opening and closing doors.

These cabins will initially have the capacity for 1300 passengers in an hour for each direction. It will be an all-weather ropeway that will operate throughout the year. Be it rain or snow, it will be operational all the time.

This ropeway is going to be a path breaking achievement as it will reduce traffic congestion in the region considerably, especially during peak seasons. This is the first ropeway in India, which is being built both for tourism purposes as well as for urban mobility between the two cities in Uttarakhand.

Owais Altaf Syed, Group Director, FIL Industries Limited, said that they are excited to introduce this mega ropeway project in Uttarakhand, which is their second ropeway project in India, after Skyview by Empyrean in Patnitop, Jammu.

Talking about the current project, he further said, “The Mussoorie-Dehradun sustainable ropeway project is being built with state-of-the-art, world-class infrastructure. Once ready, it will not only provide a source of employment and bring in revenue to the state; it will also attract tourists from across the world, contributing considerably to the state GDP.”

This is truly a revolutionising project!
