Earlier this month, India's northwest sweltered under a heatwave that came unusually early. Every year, hundreds of people die during heatwaves in India and the country usually also suffers severe water shortages. There are fears that because of climate change, heatwaves are coming earlier and may be more severe. Nagraj Adve, a climate activist and author of "Global Warming in the Indian Context", tells us more.
Meanwhile, Japanese immigration authorities are under pressure over their treatment of detainees. It comes after a 33-year-old Sri Lankan woman died in a detention centre last year. Public outrage forced the government to scrap a controversial bill that would have made it easier to deport failed asylum seekers. Our correspondents report.
Finally, we focus on the victory of veteran politician and Nobel laureate Jose Ramos-Horta in East Timor's presidential election. Ramos-Horta, who already served as president from 2007 to 2012, campaigned on promises to reduce poverty, create jobs and improve healthcare. One of his biggest challenges will also be to restore stability.
