Heart wrenching images show rescuers removing a woman from debris left after a military strike in Ukraine.
Russian shelling killed one civilian and wounded five in Luhansk, a defence official said today.
Speaking on Telegram, Serhiy Hayday said that artillery strikes had killed another five civilians in the town of Rubizhne, which has been pummelled by Russian forces for weeks.
He added four more towns in Luhansk had been shelled overnight, causing fires in apartment buildings and houses.
Amid the misery and bloodshed, uplifting images show the heroism being exhibited by rescuers as they saved one woman buried in the rubble.
The image of the efforts came as the Governor of Ukraine's Luhansk region announced that Russian forces have taken control of 60% of Rubizhne town.
Luhansk Governor Serhiy Gaidai also accused a former official of assisting the Russian forces by handing over information in an online post.
Mr Gaidai said Russian forces had carried out 81 mortar, artillery and rocket strikes across the region over the past day.
The damning estimate of Russia's progress comes as authorities in the region urged civilians to evacuate "while it is safe", warning bombardments could cut off escape routes.
Mr Gaidai said: "We will take everyone out if the Russians allow us to get to the meeting places (for evacuation).
"Because, as you can see, they don't always observe ceasefires.
"I appeal to every resident of the Luhansk region - evacuate while it is safe...While there are buses and trains - take this opportunity. "
Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said in online comments that Ukraine aimed to open 11 humanitarian corridors on Wednesday to evacuate civilians.
Mr Gaidai said rail connections in the Donetsk region of Donbas had been damaged this week and took several hours to repair.
He warned, "this is another alarm bell," and in a separate video said Russian forces had not managed to break through Ukrainian defences in his region.
But added they were destroying "everything in their path" and would "stop at nothing."
Ukraine has warned Russian troops are regrouping and preparing for a new offensive in the Donbas area, including Luhansk.
