'Incredible' - Newcastle United supporters react to six-goal thriller against Manchester City

Manchester City fought back from two goals behind to draw 3-3 against Newcastle United in an incredible six-goal thriller at St James' Park. Despite squandering a two-goal advantage, Newcastle supporters were excited by their performance against the defending Premier League champions.

Nick Pope conceded his first Premier League goal for Newcastle when Ilkay Gundogan scored the opener for the visitors inside five minutes. Newcastle fought back when Miguel Almiron bundled home Alan Saint-Maximin's low cross after a lengthy VAR review.

Callum Wilson fired Newcastle into the lead before the break and Kieran Trippier gave them a two-goal advantage with a phenomenal free-kick into the top corner in the 54th minute. Erling Haaland reduced the deficit on the hour-mark before Bernardo Silva completed the comeback with an equaliser four minutes later.

Trippier was initially shown a red card for a foul on Kevin de Bruyne in the final 15 minutes, but referee Jarred Gillett overturned his original decision after viewing the pitchside monitor. Here is what Newcastle supporters have said on the incredible contest on Twitter:

@Ryan_Kelly97 Very happy with that. Gutted to not win but shows how far we've come. When was the last time we had a team that could excite us like this? Battled so hard and scored some top goals. J7 [Joelinton], Pope, Saint-Maximin, all superb. With Howe and a team with that character we will do well this season.

@Chez261984 Couldn't be more proud of every one of them! Warriors out there and Saint-Maximin [was] unplayable. Had Walker on toast! TOON ARMY

@SellersTonys Great point could have been more we threw it away. We are a few players away from having a senior team. We need to splash the simple to keep Bruno and others at the club. ASM was outstanding and Pope.

@EdphEllis So so unlucky but we've improved so much! Great performance.

@xanadufipper Would have settled for that before the game. If we can sort out defensively, just shows what we can do going forward. Well played lads.

@tuc76049437 Unbelievable point boys! Should I be slightly annoyed that we dropped 2 goal cushion? Howay the lads!

@Zurrbs When your disappointed with a draw you know it's an incredible result. So much improvement under Eddie Howe.

@LewisGTaylor Love this lot. Even if we'd lost, they grafted, excited and we're brave. Quality!
