Dublin commuters may have recently noticed their buses waiting at stops more often to "keep to schedule".
According to the National Transport Authority, lighter traffic conditions and fewer passengers in December and January has caused buses to run faster and they have had to wait at stops to "catch up time".
They said the reason for this is that buses don't leave stops ahead of the timetabled time.
A spokesman for the National Transport Authority told Dublin Live that this policy is "particularly important" for routes that have less buses running on them.
They said: "This is particularly important on low frequency routes where early departures would mean passengers wanting to catch a bus turn up on time but find the bus has already left.
"Also for higher frequency services it reduces bunching, where buses leaving terminus at regular times catch up on each other and long gaps in service are created behind them."
The spokesman said that the NTA expects the level of waiting at stops to reduce "as traffic increases following easing of restrictions.
They also said operators will adjust schedules where required to reflect traffic conditions.
