Chelsea’s incoming new owner Todd Boehly was spotted at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night watching the Blues’ 1-1 draw with Leicester City alongside WWE legend John Cena.
Boehly, 46, had his bid to buy Chelsea from Russian Roman Abramovich accepted a fortnight ago and has been a regular feature at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks. On Thursday, Boehly was joined by a familiar face in the director’s box, wrestling legend Cena.
Cena, 45, has been one of the biggest faces in World Wrestling Entertainment over the last two decades, but in recent years has turned his attentions away from the ring and into acting, featuring in films such as The Suicide Squad, Surf’s Up 2: Wavemania and Bumblebee.
Back in 2008, Cena posed at White Hart Lane with a Tottenham Hotspur shirt alongside Spurs legend Gerry Francis, with Tottenham being Chelsea’s arch-rivals.
At the time, Cena said: "Tottenham were playing the same night I had a WWE event in London, but I was able to go and see the stadium and I was lucky enough to actually walk on the pitch.
"I really loved it because it was right in the heart of the city - it reminded me of an old baseball stadium with its nostalgia and tradition.
Will Chelsea ever match the success of the Roman Abramovich era under new owner Todd Boehly? Have your say in the comments section.
"I got to hear about the Spurs being the working man's team, I got to meet the coach and it was beautiful to see the bright green pitch amidst all the city concrete."
The duo watched on as Chelsea missed the chance to beat - a Leicester side who beat them at Wembley Stadium in last season’s FA Cup final in the Premier League.
Chelsea found themselves 1-0 down inside the opening ten minutes at Stamford Bridge via James Maddison’s early goal, with the Blues levelling before the break via Marcos Alonso’s volley.
The Blues could have won the game convincingly, having 20 shots to Leicester’s two in the tie, with Christian Pulisic steering wide from six yards in a chance where he really should have scored.
Chelsea have not mathematically secured third place as they sit above Tottenham by three points going into the final day of the season on Sunday. However, with a goal difference is 18 better and, barring any freak results, third place is theirs.
A point for Leicester keeps them in ninth. They could finish the season eighth if they win their final game against Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers fail to beat title hopefuls Liverpool.
