Prison staff donned 'riot gear' after reports of fighting inside HMP Risley.
The ECHO understands a fight broke out in the Warrington prison on June 6. A witness told the ECHO prison officers were spotted in riot gear while attempting to resolve the incident.
The Ministry of Justice confirmed an incident had taken place. It said the incident had been resolved by "hardworking staff" and confirmed no members of staff were injured during the disruption.
The spokesperson also said prisoners who break rules will face "tough punishment".

A prison service spokesperson said: "Hardworking staff safely resolved an incident at HMP Risley on Tuesday 6 June. Prisoners who break the rules face tough punishment including extra time behind bars."
