
Sweets meant to be distributed among students of Jobat town in Alirajpur district who took part in the Independence Day celebration on Wednesday, were allegedly carried in a garbage truck, sparking outrage and demands for action against officials responsible for the goof up.
The Jobat Nagar Parishad distributed the sweets among 2500 students who took part in the celebrations in the town which is over 350 km southeast of Bhopal. Different government departments had pooled in to prepare the sweets. At the time of the distribution of the sweets, the garbage truck was not there, but the news spread after a video showing the sweets bring carted in the garbage truck went viral.
“We are looking into the matter and action would be taken,” Alirajpur district collector Ganesh Shankar Mishra.
Farooq Khatri, corporator of Jobat Nagar Parishad put Jobat Nagar Parishad chief municipal officer A S Khan in his line of fire and said that action should be taken against him. Khan said he was not aware of the incident as he was out of town.
District Congress spokesperson Sunil Khede demanded the registration of FIR against the guilty while the BJP’s Alirajpur unit chief Rakesh Agrawal demanded that the collector act against those responsible for the shocking incident.
