Hundreds of thousands of people attended his funeral, as police closed major highways before and during the course of the procession.

Shteinman was the long-time head of the Ponevezh Yeshiva and the head of the Degel HaTorah party, a part of United Torah Judaism.

Rabbi Aharon Leib Shteinman, the spiritual leader of the non-Hassidic Ashkenazi Haredi community, died today at the age of 104 and was buried near his home in the city of Bnei Brak.
